Pierre Dørge & New Jungle Orchestra: 41 Year Anniversary

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Pierre Dørge (Guitar/Conductor / DK)Gunnar Halle (Trumpet / DK)Jakob Mygind (Soprano/Tenor Sax / NO)Anders Banke (Clarinet/Bass Clarinet/Tenor Sax / DK)Kenneth Agerholm (Trombone / DK)Irene Becker (Piano/Synthesizer / DK)Thommy Andersson (Bass / SE)Ayi Solomon (African Percussion / GA)Martin Andersen (Drums / DK)

One of Denmark’s absolute great national orchestras in jazz is called New Jungle Orchestra. Due to COVID-19, we unfortunately had to cancel the concert that was to celebrate the orchestra's 40th anniversary in 2020. Fortunately, we can celebrate the orchestra's 41 years with this concert!

NJO has through their traveling all over the world established their sound and a musical expression that collects inspiration from music from the Nordic countries to Sibiria, India, Bali, USA, Africa, The Middle East and The Deer Park in Denmark – all these sources of inspiration are mixed, intertwined and interpreted so there is something for every listener. Incarnated jazz haters have been converted to unconditional jazz lovers after spending two sets with NJO, and even those who have heard NJO multiple times still have a sensational experience every time Pierre Dørge and his troop of well-trained improvisers take the stage. This night we can expect a sublime mixture of newly composed music and old NJO-hits in new versions. You’ll never leave a New Jungle Orchestra concert unaffected!

Dameronia's Legacy Allstars: New York Meets Europe

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Jim Rotondi (Trumpet / US)Dick Oatts (Alto Sax / US)Jon Boutellier (Tenor Sax / FR)Gary Smulyan (Bariton Sax / US)Johannes Herrlich (Trombone / DE)Andrea Pozza (Piano / IT)Aldo Zunino (Bass / IT)Bernd Reiter (Drums / AT)

Eight musicians representing the homeland of jazz, the United States, as well as Austria, Italy and Germany, gather in this distinguished group to celebrate the music created by the iconic pianist and composer Tadd Dameron. As one of the creators of bop music, Dameron's uncompromising style was a constant inspiration for his contemporary musicians. And his music still presents challenges to contemporary musicians and delight among audiences worldwide.

This group is an excellent example of how Dameron's music is still current, can still delight and is still relevant. Fine musicians all around, all showing their dedication to one of jazz's great personalities and original composers. The memories of Tadd Dameron live on beautifully in this group's reverent continuation of his music.

Steen Rasmussen All Star Quinteto feat. Lelo Minax

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Steen Rasmussen (Piano / DK)Lelo Minax (Guitar/Vocal / BR)Lis Wessberg (Trombone / DK)Yasser Pino (Bass / CU)Jonas Johansen (Drums / DK)Eliel Lazo (Percussion / CU)

It does not get better! If you want to hear Brazilian music in Denmark, Steen Rasmussen's distinguished quintet is one of the absolute best. The musicians play superiorly laid back, clear and classic Brazilian jazz/pop. Rasmussen's band never fires it up. Rather, the musicians hold back and lean comfortably up against the underlying pulse of the music, that everyone has right under their skin.

Rasmussen’s and trombone player Lis Wessberg's subdued and elegant solos are elegantly backed by Yasser Pino's bass, Eliel Lazo's swinging percussion and Jonas Johansen's responsive drums. Added to Brazilian Lelo Minax's beautiful voice and fiery guitar playing, you have the feeling of being in a hot club in the heart of Rio de Janeiro. Do not miss out on one of the hottest musical experiences in this fall.

Jan Lundgren (Piano / SE)Hans Backenroth (Bass / SE)

Swedish piano/bass duos must be created in heaven. All jazz connoisseurs love Jan Johansson and Georg Riedel's wonderful release from 1968, "Jazz på Svenska", where old folk melodies get the right swinging touch that appeals to the soul of anyone who listens to them.

The pianist Jan Lundgren is today's continuator of the proud tradition. Formerly in the company of Riedel, but here we hear him with Hans Backenroth, whose playing and understanding of combining the American jazz feeling with the proud Swedish, slightly melancholic approach to the music, harmonizes perfectly with Lundgren's beautiful, personal, and imaginative playing. Look forward to an evening where the most beautiful tones will flow from the stage.

Celebrating Bo Stief at 75

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Bo Stief (Bass / DK)Bobo Moreno (Vocal / DK)Andrea Stief (Words / DK)Jens Søndergaard (Alto Sax / DK)Hans Ulrik (Tenor Sax / DK)Magnus Wiinblad (Sax / DK)Rasmus Mikkelsen (Trumpet / DK)Kim Mai Tich-Nguyen (Flute / DK)Erik von Spreckelsen (Piano / DK)Frans Bak (Piano / DK)Ole Kock Hansen (Piano / DK)Krister Jonsson (Guitarq / SE)Poul Halberg (Guitar / DK)Mads Nørgaard (Guitar / DK)Mathæus Bech (Bass / DK)Kirstine Elise Pedersen (Cello / DK)Alex Riel (Drums / DK)Ayi Solomon (Percussion / GA)

Everyone who has been interested in Danish jazz in the last half century has inevitably bumped into bassist Bo Stief. He has always been there, he has left his mark everywhere in Danish music, and he has solidly marked himself as a musical zealot, a solid cornerstone and a cheerful and always committed musician who puts his personal mark on all the music he chooses to. Bo Stief started as a bass apprentice in Jazzhus Montmartre around the same time as the icon Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen back in the early 60s.

Here he played behind American super-solists like Dexter Gordon and Ben Webster. Bo Stief was one of the first jazz bassists who also mastered the electric bass in i.a. Rainbow Band (later Midnight Sun), as well as Denmark’s first jazz/rock band, Entrance, who really pushed the boundaries in the early 70s. Bo Stief's distinctive and easily recognizable style has always been a pleasure to listen to, and his rock-solid understanding of what to play and what not to play is legendary.

Bo Stief's career with his own groups is an eventful journey through all the corners and cracks of music: his desire for experience, creativity and completely unstoppable energy makes him one of Danish - if not European - jazz's most innovative and original personalities. For this birthday concert, Bo Stief has invited several musicians which he has been playing with during the past years.

Gypsy Jazz has swept the audiences off their feet since its birth in the 1930’s bubbly Paris. Sizzling solos and lethal speeds on acoustic instruments are the characteristics of the genre. With this constellation of talented, young Danish and Swedish jazz musicians, Jazzkollektivet has gathered a powerful team of interpreters of the popular music. The concert offers traditional methods and a great deal of joyful playing.

This concert is presented in cooperation with Jazzkollektivet, a community that consists of Nordic jazz talents. The ambition with the collective, that were founded in 2016, is to support a sprouting growth layer of young musicians and contribute to these talents making a living of their arts.

This night is a gathering of one and a half Danish jazz generation, and a real American jazz icon. They gather at an exclusive concert that pays tribute to the strongest musical expression of the 20th century - jazz in the form of hardbop!

Hardbop is the part of jazz that grew big and strong up through the 1950s. It is jazz with body, soul and power. But above all it is jazz that - when it reaches the highest notes - will bring out the great joy and a strong desire in the musicians as well as the audience. This ensemble masters the expression, and there is rock-solid guarantee that the intuitive and ultra-dynamic drummer Billy Hart, will keep the pot boiling from the first beat to the last.

ANDREA MOTIS (Trumpet/Vocal / ES)Ignasi Terraza (Piano / ES)Jesper Bodilsen (Bass / DK)Martin Maretti Andersen (Drums / DK)

Andrea Motis has, at the age of only 26, taken the jazz world by storm. The young singer and trumpeter, who also plays magnificent alto sax, will guest Montmartre and Copenhagen in the company of pianist Ignasi Terraza and the terrific rythm-team Jesper Bodilsen and Martin Andersen.

With over eight praised records and a maturity and experience from travelling and performing all over the world, Motis moves with a rare elegance through the standard repertoire of jazz as well as her own compositions. On her latest record “Do Outro Lade Do Azul” – a festive of Brazilian Bossanova and Samba – this new star on the Spanish jazz sky shows a new side of her impressive musicianship.

Niels Munk: Fantasilaboratoriet

Niels Munk Petersen (Trumpet / DK)Dan Hjorth Jensen (Piano / DK)Jens Mikkel Madsen (Bass / DK)Jonathan Jull Ludvigsen (Drums / DK)

Fantasilaboratoriet is motivated by the spiritual value in the arts and is a musical project that is experimenting with and testing boundaries. Band leader Niels Munk Petersen explores new musical landscapes through storytelling based on a tradition-bound melodical language, and the project of Fantasilaboratoriet places itself both in the center and in the periphery of the jazz genre. Whereas the jazz is used as a foundation for improvisation, the members of the ensemble find inspiration in modern musical environments and endeavor themselves to never repeat the musical past. Niels Munk Petersen’s Nordic tone is complemented by a harmonious interplay with his long-term musical partner; pianist Dan Hjorth Jensen. The drummer Jonathan Jull Ludvigsen has played with the hiphop/jazz-band Athletic Progression among others and adds a unique layer of heavy rhythmical complexities to the melodic universes. The bassist Jens Mikkel Madsen is known as part of the group I Think You’re Awesome and injects his usual joy and warmth to the music. Fantasilaboratoriet is a thoughtful and equilibristic, tradition-bound ensemble that also wishes to test the boundaries of the music. This ensemble addresses the curious audience.

Emil Savery Trio / Jazzkonkurrencen

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.
Emil Savery (Hammon Organ / DK)Matthias Petri (Bass / DK)Simon Albertsen (Drums / DK)

Emil Savery Trio's musical mission is to explore opposing musical polarities and unfold them through their enormous energy. This approach to their music secured them the prize as the winners of the Jazz Competition 2020.

The trio does not play in one particular genre, but instead draws inspiration from all the music that ignites their creative spark. The trio's music is full of freedom and spontaneity, spiced with groove and crisp hippie vibes from Savery's hammond organ. You can therefore expect music for both body and soul at the crossroads between compositions and improvisations. There will be dancing, there will be close listening, there will be dreaming - whatever the music inspires you to.

Emil Savery Trio is one of the four finalists in Jazzkonkurrencen 2020 and has in that context been given the possibility to perform as a headliner at Jazzhus Montmartre. The concert is presented in collaboration with JazzDanmark and Gangstedfonden.

Here comes an interesting concert! A collaboration where the initiative is German, and the musicians are from Denmark, the United States and Germany. The two German musicians, guitarist Ulf Meyer and bassist Martin Wind, have a long history together, and have had collaborated with the Danish icon Alex Riel for long time with several CD releases. American pianist Billy Test is another rising star on the American jazz sky.

Here we'll hear what the four can get out of a repertoire that includes both original compositions and jewels from the American book of jazz-standards. The two German musicians themselves mention the fantastic collaboration between NHØP and the Belgian guitarist Philip Catherine from the 1970s as their great source of inspiration. It will be exciting to hear this brand-new interpretation of iconic music.

Her kommer en interessant koncert!

Rasmus Oppenhagen Krogh: Whereabouts

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.
Rasmus Oppenhagen Krogh (Guitar / DK)Adi Zukanovic (Keys / DK)Anders 'AC' Christensen (Bass / DK)tba (Drums / DK)

This evening guitarist Rasmus Oppenhagen Krogh presents his latest project "Whereabouts". The project has been on the way for the past few years and culminated with the album of the same name, released in the autumn of 2020. The album marks Krogh's second solo release after the highly acclaimed debut album "Distil" from 2017.

"Whereabouts” explores the intersection between composition/improvisation and simplicity/complexity and the relationship between time and space. The guitar playing floats with great elegance on top of the other instruments, and the improvisations drift through the room with a warmth from the strings of the guitar. The new album "Whereabouts" counts a team of seven musicians, but the music this evening will be presented in a smaller quartet format, with room to explore new corners of the material.

Guitarist Rasmus Oppenhagen Krogh præsenterer denne aften sit seneste projekt ”Whereabouts”.

Lars Jansson Trio

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Lars Jansson (Piano / SE)Thomas Fonnesbæk (Bass / DK)Paul Svanberg (Drums / SE)

The Swedish pianist Lars Jansson started his distinguished career as an imaginative keyboard player in the legendary fusion group EGBA back in the late 70s. Gradually, he stockpiled his keyboards and concentrated exclusively on the grand piano – to which we are very thankful! Based in Gothenburg and always with a focus on having his home country's musical melancholy in his playing, Jansson has cemented his place as one of Sweden’s always relevant musicians. Over the years, he has developed and simplified his playing in a direction where he stands out as one of Sweden's leading music creators.

Lars Jansson's latest release, “Just This Lars Jansson Trio” gives a perfect picture of where he stands today. Likewise, the release of “Swan Songs” can be highly recommended. The best of the best from Sweden takes the stage of Montmartre.

Champian Fulton Trio

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Champian Fulton (Vocal/Piano / US)Hans Backenroth (Bass / SE)Kristian Leth (Drums / DK)

It is always a joy to meet and experience tomorrow's jazz personalities. Here's the chance this will happen when American pianist and singer Champian Fulton visits Montmartre with her Scandinavian trio. The father, trumpeter Stephen Fulton, was a central figure in Oklahoma's active jazz scene, so Champian Fulton is used to playing with the giants from childhood.

She is today an established and respected musician and has visited countless jazz festivals in the United States and performed with jazz icons such as Lou Donaldson, Frank Wess and Buster Williams. Stylistically, Champian Fulton moves convincingly around the goldmine called the American song treasure and has been called America's most promising jazz singer. She is a captivating performer, and especially when she gets backing from the fine Swedish bassist Hans Backenroth and the Danish drummer Kristian Leth.

Tine Bruhn Quintet: Joni Mitchell & Beyond

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Tine Bruhn (Vocal / DK)Søren Gemmer (Piano / DK)Per Møllehøj (Guitar / DK)Kasper Tagel (Bass / DK)Jonas Johansen (Drums / DK)

Singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell is the inspiration for several generations of singers. Her totally uncompromising and always deeply personal songwriting contains everything needed to let soul, intellect, and body merge together. It has inspired the Danish singer, Trine Bruhn, to this concert, where she interprets several of Mitchell's iconic songs - both in Mitchell's arrangements and in Herbie Hancock's beautiful interpretations from the release "The Joni Letters", just as Trine Bruhn also contributes with her own arrangements.

Bruhn will also do "Vocalese" editions of compositions by Joshua Redman, Roy Hargrove and Pat Metheny. She tries to reach the soul of the audience with her music, and with this beautiful presentation she will definitely succeed.

Eline Hellerud (Vocal / NO)Nikolaj Svaneborg (Piano / DK)Christor Stangness (Bass / NO)Jonas Kardyb (Drums / DK)

The sources of Hellerud’s inspirations are hymns and folk tunes from the northern Norway, and at the same time Eline Hellerud she is strongly anchored in the experimental and improvisational elements of jazz.
