North / Upcoming at Montmartre

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.
Benjamin Nørholm Jacobsen (Piano / DK)Martin Brunbjerg Rasmussen (Bass / DK)Lasse Jacobsen (Drums / DK)

Drawing inspiration from modern minimalism and with the roots firmly planted in the Nordic jazz tradition, the trio takes the listener on a journey to a world of cinematic evocative compositions. The music is lyrical and melodic and exists in the borderlands between composition and improvisation. Between the simple and the complex. With profound interplay and a strongly image-creating character, the foundation is laid for a musical experience of the highest caliber.

For students/under 26, tickets: 50 DKK

John Marshall Quartet

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
John Marshall (Trumpet / US)Calle Brickman (Piano / DK)Ida Hvid (Bass / DK)Egor Kryukovskikh (Drums / RU)

Raw, aggressive, but also deeply felt and intense trumpet playing from a musician, who for years has embellished trumpet sections in various European big bands, but who now wants to defend his position as an important performer with focus on neo-bop and what followed. John Marshall’s beautiful sound and strong power in luring out all possible details of the musical finesses of the compositions, are an important reason for visiting Montmartre this (hopefully) warm night in June. Hearing the fine trio behind Marshall could be another reason. Whatever the choices, you will not leave without gaining a fine musical experience.

Students/under 26 tickets: Half price off

Silhouette: A Tribute to Lars Gullin

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Christina Von Bülow (Alto Sax / DK)Fredrik Lundin (Baryton Sax / DK)Jacob Fisher (Guitar / DK)Daniel Franck (Bass / SE)Jeppe Gram (Drums / DK)

Alto sax player Christina von Bülow and baritone sax player Fredrik Lundin are both fascinated by the late Swedish baritone sax player Lars Gullin's emotional and melancholic playing. The two of them decided to form a group, with Gullin's eternally present and beautiful music as the main part of the repertoire, supplemented with original compositions. This is a beautiful corner of Scandinavian jazz, this is where great emotions are presented, and no one leaves the concert without being touched by this music.

Students/under 26 tickets: 147,5 DKK

Niels Ryde (Bass / DK)Frederik Menzies (Tenor Sax / DK)William Larsson (Piano / SE)Morten Hæsum (Drums / DK)

Jacob Artved (Guitar / DK)Jeb Patton (Piano / US)David Wong (Bass / US)Louis Hayes (Drums / US)

COPENHAGEN JAZZ FESTIVAL 2019

It is always a joy when a young musician decides to focus on passing on a strong jazz-tradition. Guitarist Jacob Artved lives in the tradition, but has definitely obtained inspirations from guitar players of today. His playing is skilled and honest, and he has a fine career ahead of him. These three days Artved is heard with no other than a legend; the American drummer Louis Hayes, whose strong playing was the driving force in groups led by Cannonball Adderley, Horace Silver and Woody Shaw. What a scoop! The group is completed by two incredible musicians from NYC; pianist Jeb Patton and bassist David Wong.

COPENHAGEN JAZZ FESTIVAL 2019

Montmartre has a distinguished tradition of jam sessions. In the 50s and 60s the stars took the stage after the scheduled concerts and continued the party. The tradition is continued during Copenhagen Jazz Festival, where the stars gather in all kinds of constellations and create completely unique moments.

This year's Late Night Jam Sessions are curated by a young, Danish trio consisting of Zier Romme on piano, Felix Moseholm on bass and Malthe Arndal on drums. Despite their young age, all three have cemented their names on the Danish jazz scene. Every night they will be joined by a special guest on horn and fire up a party at the jam sessions during this year's Copenhagen Jazz Festival.

Ronnie Cuber Band

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Ronnie Cuber (Bariton Sax / US)Mads Vinding (Bass / DK)Nikolaj Bentzon (Keys / DK)Andreas Svendsen (Drums / DK)

A star doesn’t necessarily lose its shine even though it has been glowing on the international jazz scene since 1959. Baryton saxplayer Ronnie Cuber is the finest proof hereof. Here we have a musician who could not care less about creating “fine art”. Instead, Cuber finds all the good stuff in the soul of jazz and puts it out there the way, he wants it to sound. His sound is straight, honest and smack-in-your-face, which puts a happy smile on the audience’s faces. Hear him with Danish musicians, who know how to accompany a musician of this high caliber: Straight on!

Scott Hamilton/Jan Lundgren Quartet ft. Ulf Wakenius

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Scott Hamilton (Tenor Sax / US)Jan Lundgren (Piano / SE)Ulf Wakenius (Guitar / SE)Hans Backenroth (Bass / SE)Kristian Leth (Drums / DK)

This is music for the sweet tooth. If you are a sucker for the good melodies, tastefully played by world class musicians, this is the concert for you. The repertoire is picked from the rich treasure-box of popular songs from the 20th century’s Denmark. Songs that we all know and that is part of our cultural inheritance. You will also hear music, closely connected to US-musicians like Stan Getz and Oscar Pettiford, who lived in Copenhagen way back in the late 50s, but whose legacy is still present. This all-star group is led by the American tenor saxophone player Scott Hamilton, who is a master at conveying beautiful melodies. Complimented by the Swedish pianist Jan Lundgren’s personal style and sublime phrasing, which is very close to fellow countryman and Swedish jazz-icon Jan Johansson’s, and the Swedish super-guitarist Ulf Wakenius, whose melodic and technically perfect string work is known from his years with Oscar Peterson and Danish bass-icon Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen. The rhythm-team consist of the experienced and swinging Swedish bassist Hans Backenroth and the versatile Danish drummer Kristian Leth. These concerts mark the release of Hamilton’s new album “Danish Ballads & more”.

Sinne Eeg (Vocal / DK)Thomas Fonnesbæk (Bass / DK)

Sinne Eeg is here to stay, and for good reason. Her talent is beyond belief and her voice sounds like a choir of angels. This evening she is accompanied by the outstanding Thomas Fonnesbæk who is one of the most remarkable Danish bass players. He plays with a technical surplus and a melodic sensibility that hasn't been heard since NHØP and together with Eeg a completely unique interplay and understanding of each other’s sound occurs and they do indeed take the meeting of vocal and bass to new heights!

Students / under 26: 160 DKK

Sinne Eeg Group

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Sinne Eeg (Vocal / DK)Jacob Christoffersen (Piano / DK)Lennart Ginman (Bass / DK)Morten Lund (Drums / DK)

Sinne Eeg is considered to be one of the jazz queens of Denmark. She has won many awards including the prestigious Ben Webster Award in 2014 and is a two-time Danish Music Award winner for "Best Vocal Jazz Album", which she won in 2007 and 2010. In spite of having performed and traveled all over the world, Sinne Eeg keeps the Scandinavian melancholy settled in her music. Her sound is modern and Nordic with clear references to legendary jazz singers such as Nancy Wilson and Benny Carter. Her concerts are known for being filled with humor, a charming presence and musical bonanza, which comes to show by playfully taking chances on stage. This evening she is performing together with three great Danish musicians: pianist Jacob Christoffersen, bass player Lennart Ginman and drummer Morten Lund.

Students / under 26: 180 DKK

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Kristian Jørgensen (Violin / DK)Olivier Antunes (Piano / DK)Graig Earle (Bass / CA)Janus Templeton (Drums / DK)

No one can caress the violin like Kristian Jørgensen. No one can make the violin almost talk like Kristian Jørgensen. And no one can bring the smiles to our faces like he can. Since legendary violinist Svend Asmussen passed away, Kristian Jørgensen has carried the torch proudly, and will do so for many years. With this fine group we will gather around music from the Great American Songbook as well as gems from the wonderful box of DK song treasures. Tunes, that we all know and can relate to. We sing along – accompanied by Jørgensen and his fin musicians, who have rearranged the tunes, so we have to listen carefully before we can join in. It swings, it entertains, it is great music!

Limited tickets: Students / Under 26: 140 DKK

Peter Bernstein Scandinavian Connection

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Peter Bernstein (Guitar / US)Martin Schack (Piano / DK)Jesper Bodilsen (Bass / DK)Anders Mogensen (Drums / DK)

Danish pianist Martin Schack is part of the group of young jazz musicians who hungrily pick up from jazz gone-by and adds their own DNA to the music. In this case we are focusing on the physical part of the acoustic jazz, with a here-and-now-feeling, where body, soul and intellect join hands. Shack brings along a fine Danish rhythm-section; bassist Jesper Bodilsen and drummer Anders Mogensen, and introduces American guitarist Peter Bernstein as special guest at this exclusive concert. Bernstein belongs to the fine, younger part of the east American guitar elite and will definitely make this evening memorable.
