Riel/Mikkelborg/Dahl/Stief

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Alex Riel (Drums / DK)Palle Mikkelborg (Trumpet / DK)Bo Stief (Bass / DK)Carsten Dahl (Piano / DK)

Looking forward to three concerts with four living legends whose names all shine bright on the Danish jazz sky. In 1962-65, Alex Riel was brought in as the house drummer in Jazzhus Montmartre where he with NHØP and Bo Stief especially, learned the craftsmanship by playing with the international stars including names like Dexter Gordon and Ben Webster. Bo Stief also started his career in Montmartre in Store Regnegade, where he accompanied most of the soloists who came through Copenhagen at the time. Palle Mikkelborg is one of Denmark's most innovative and original jazz musicians ever. Since the 1960s he has challenged the musical conventions with his personal trumpet playing, his orchestras and his compositional crossover projects. Last but not least, Carsten Dahl, who as early as 14 years was a well-known studio musician, and at the age of 19 started at the Music Conservatory where he had the legendary American drummer Ed Thigpen as his teacher, before he eventually started playing the piano instead. These four virtuous stars should be experience at close range. We can’t wait!
