Geoffrey Keezer Trio feat. Gillian Margot

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Geoffrey Keezer (Piano / US)Richie Goods (Bass / US)Jon Wikan (Drums / US)Gillian Margot (Vocal / CA)

American pianist Geoffrey Keezer arrives in Montmartre with great honors in his luggage. At 18 he already played piano with drummer-legend Art Blakey – and that requires skills to the max! Keezer received many GRAMMY-nominations, he composed music to films and tv-series, and is a well-respected musician back home in the US. We will meet Geoffrey Keezer with his own group, featuring young singer Gillian Margot, whose voice and charisma opens doors to a brilliant career in jazz, pop and/or musical. Fusion/rock-legend Sting says the following about Geoffrey Keezer: “In the universe of piano players that I have been ex-posed to over the years, Geoffrey has proved himself to be not only a superb technician and improviser, but also above and beyond this, a composer and conceptualist who can maintain the overall line and the DNA of the song in everything he plays. A musician’s musician.”

Selveste Sting udtaler bl.a. dette om Geoffrey Keezer: “In the universe of piano players that I have been ex-posed to over the years, Geoffrey has proved himself to be not only a superb technician and improviser, but also above and beyond this, a composer and conceptualist who can maintain the overall line and the DNA of the song in everything he plays. Moseholm Trio / Upcoming

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.
Gideon Tazelaar (Tenor Sax / NZ)Felix Moseholm (Bass / DK)Rodney Green (Drums / US)

Moseholm Trio consists of the Danish bass player Felix Moseholm, American drummer Rodney Green and Gideon Tazelaar from New Zealand playing the Tenor Sax. This trio has recently gained a lot of attention within the international jazz environment. Jazz-entrepreneur Brian Rindom Larsen, who owns the record label Fiol Sessions, is known for presenting only the very best from the young jazz-scene – and recently, Moseholm Trio has been the focus point. The trio’s music consists of their own compositions, led by Felix Moseholm. Moseholm has, despite his young age, already played numerous international concerts in the company of jazz legends such as Alvin Queen and Alex Riel. Several awards, including The Horace Parlan Talent Award, a spot studying jazz at Julliard and performances in both Europe and the US has resulted in Moseholm also releasing his own record. The trio furthermore consist of Gideon Tazelaar who dedicated his life to the saxophone and, likewise, securing a spot at Julliard in New York. From early on, he was recognized by Wynston Marsalis for his unique sound, greatly inspired by Sonny Rollins and Lester Young. The last part of the trio consists of Rodney Green who is one of the biggest players within his field. He has performed with artists such as Christian McBride and Joe Henderson. He is, with his sophisticated and creative approach, one of the most recognized drummers in the world.

Flere priser, bl.a.

His long history in all corners of Swedish jazz – from latin/afro-fusion in the groundbreaking group EGBA, to own groups of variable sizes to backing international artists – Jansson knows about the history of jazz, and he often adds a pinch of the special Swedish melancholia. The great thing about Jansson’s version of jazz is his superior, expressive and always positive approach to music. On this occasion, he will be on stage with Danish bass-icon Jesper Bodilsen and his son, drummer Poul Svanberg, who will add his attentive playing. Expect piano-trio art on a very high level.

Beautiful Argentinian sound paintings from a acoustic guitar. Dominic Miller’s tasteful and distinct playing – especially on the acoustic nylon strings guitar – has been highly in demand for many years. Miller has an impressing catalogue as a sideman with artists like Sting (since 1990), Mano Dibango, The Chieftains, Tina Turner, Blossom Dearie and Youssou N’Dour. Dominic Miller’s last CD-release is on the highly-acclaimed record label ECM Records and has a strong focus on good taste and a gorgeous sound – but still with sharp edges. Come and enjoy a master at his third concert in Denmark as leader.

Stereolog #2: Billedligt Talt

Martin Bigum (Painter / DK)Torben Svendrup (Historian / DK)Tao Højgaard (Guitar/Electronics / DK)Kristor Brødsgaard (Bass / DK)

The second edition of Montmartre and jazz guitarist Tao Højgaards dialectical concert, "Stereolog", offers both historical insight and artistic life. Historian Torben Svendrup and painter Martin Bigum will enter into a sincere and candid discussion about being human through time and space - all accompanied by Tao Højgaard and Kristor Brødsgaards cinematic jazz music. Guitarist Tao Højgaard, being a playful and innovative musician, excludes saxophones and trumpets, and instead uses scientists and artists as melodic carriers. The music becomes an abstract host which through sound structures, dynamic shifts and harmonious artifacts, divides the participants' conversation into mood chapters.

Torben Svendrup has written more than 30 books about culture- and mentality history and succeeds, with his imparable knowledge and colorful sources, to provide us with insights that we did not know we needed. Multi-artist Martin Bigum is known for having the ability to include his audience in a fascinating universe in form of dynamic paintings, full of interpretations. Once again, "Stereolog" will provide you with a musical experience, where dialogue provides the framework. This Stereolog-session will for sure provoke both your thoughts and your feelings.

Ticket for students/under 26: DKK 90

Lasse Schjerning meets Pedro Martins & Frederico Heliodoro

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.
Lasse Schjerning (Drums / DK)Pedro Martins (Guitar / BR)Frederico Heliodoro (Bass / BR)

Lasse Scherning’s new and ambitious project is unique Nordic elegance and simplicity in symbiosis with Brazilian romance and passion. The listener gets struck when the trio explores the sonic universe between two cultures with great respect and passion for the music’s honesty. This intriguing encounter across borders is the culmination on an intense and stimulating musical stay in Berlin, where the trio met in spring 2018. They quickly found a connection and a curiosity for the deeper layers in the music. This curiosity and a high level of ambition has always powered the young and upcoming drummer Lasse Schjerning ever since he grabbed the drumsticks. This is the reason why he is inviting the young Brazilian lions to Denmark this spring. Pedro Martins and Frederico Heliodoro both have an impressive back catalogue considering their young age. They are also members of bands which includes musicians such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, David Binney and KNOWER.

Tickets: DKK 100 / DKK 50 for students and under 26.

Carsten, Nils and Stefan are reaching out for the essence of interplay and improvisation through well-known standard songs, that invites the three musicians into a field of innovation as playing composers and composing players.

"This constellation is my favourite one. It’s like one big contemplative collective breath of air, where the horizontal and vertical understanding between us, become one. A seldom experience in music in fact and an inquestionable obligation to serve the universal language of music to the audiens. Being a complete trinity in music" – Carsten Dahl.

Jesper Thilo with Olivier Antunes

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Jesper Thilo (Tenor Sax / DK)Olivier Antunes (Piano / DK)Thomas Fonnesbæk (Bass / DK)Janus Templeton (Drums / DK)

The internationally acclaimed saxophonist Jesper Thilo has since the early 1960s positioned himself as a colossal in both the Danish and European jazz landscape. As part of the Arnvid Meyers Orchestra, DR's Big Band and various ensembles of national and international character, Jesper Thilo has made a significant impression on Danish jazz and always guaranteed music on top of the scale. He was the first to receive the Ben Webster award in 1977. A prize that was awarded to Olivier Antunes in 1999. Thilo and Antunes began their telepathic collaboration in 1995, where the mere 22-year-old Olivier entered the big scene along with the already internationally recognized Thilo. The mentor and protegé relationship has resulted in musical sparks over the years. The combination of Thilo's hot, crisp and melodic saxophone with Antunes' youthful, potent and temperamental piano forms an exquisite cocktail that any jazz connoisseur will enjoy. Not least when they are accompanied by the two virtuosos; Thomas Fonnesbæk on bass and Janus Templeton on drums.
