Little North: Album Release

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.
Benjamin Nørholm Jacobsen (Piano / DK)Martin Brunbjerg Rasmussen (Bass / DK)Lasse Jacobsen (Drums / DK)Kasper Tranberg (Trumpet / DK)Viktor Spasov (Guitar / SE)

With a captivating sound and a warm, intense presence, the audience is invited into the depths of the music from the first beat. The sound of Little North is far greater than the classic piano trio constellation suggests. In a melting pot of modern minimalism and Nordic jazz tradition, and with an intensity that draws threads to New York's jazz scene, Little North adds the next exciting chapter in the history of Scandinavian jazz. For their latest releases, the group has harvested widespread recognition, and thrilled both Danish as well as international critics.

On the upcoming album “Familiar Places”, Little North expands their already well-defined sound. The guitar's warm energy and the raw, expressive expression from the trumpet add new musical depths while the trio's strong sound runs like a red thread through the album. At “Familiar Places”, Little North presents a wide range of emotional and sonic landscapes and at the same time continues to refine their well-known Nordic sound.

Petter Wettre with Friends

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Petter Wettre (Tenor Sax / NO)Gábor Bolla (Tenor Sax / HU)Daniel Franck (Bass / SE)Jakob Høyer (Drums / DK)

One of Norway’s leading saxophonists returns. Petter Wettre continues the proud tenor sax tradition as it was embodied in the mid-20th century by artists like Dexter Gordon. It is a matter of mastering, cultivating and constantly refining the big wide tone. To be able to search into the core of the melodic material and combine the instrument-technical with the spiritual expression, so that the listener cannot avoid being completely captivated.

On top of that, we get a real tenor battle, as the Hungarian-born tenor saxophonist, Gabor Bolla, participates in this exclusive concert. The group is completed by an outstanding bass/drum pair in in form of Daniel Franck and Jakob Høyer. It will be a concert with high tempo from start to finish.

Cancelled: Trygve Seim: Helsinki Songs

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Trygve Seim (Tenor Sax / NO)Kristjan Randalu (Piano / EST)Mats Eilertsen (Bass / NO)Markku Ounaskari (Drums / FI)

Here we have a Norwegian tenor saxophonist who confesses to Ornette Coleman, John Coltrane and Jimmy Webb. His desire to interpret advanced musical expressions is quite unique. Trygve Seim has released eight albums on the legendary record company ECM, and the latest is his tribute to the Finnish capital Helsinki, where he settled for a period, to get new inspirations. The result is this project, which oozes the gloomily heavy, but also romantic and humoristic quality that lies deep within Finnish culture. And then of course there are the inspirations from the Norwegian mountains, which always have an alluring effect on artistic souls. An inter Scandinavian input of the rarer ones, very much welcome at Jazzhus Montmartre.

Frederik Villmow Trio w/ Storaas & Hegge

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Frederik Villmow (Drums / NO)Vigleik Storaas (Piano / NO)Bjørn Marius Hegge (Bass / NO)

The Norwegian drummer Frederik Villmow leads this extremely tasteful trio. The music is very welcoming and at the same time complicated in its structure - a rarely heard feature. With an exquisite swing, conductor Villmow keeps the pot boiling without dominating, while Storaas and Hegge take care of the high-flying solos and the deep groove.

Come by and get to know three musicians who have set out to further develop Norwegian jazz, and who to that extent succeed with their venture.
