The Aaron Parks Quartet (featuring Ben Solomon on tenor saxophone, Kanoa Mendenhall on bass, and RJ Miller on drums) is a return to acoustic small-group music for the pianist-composer, after years of primarily touring with his genre-bending band Little Big. “There’s a book of unrecorded compositions of mine that I’ve been working on for some years now but have rarely performed outside of New York,” he writes. “Music with something of a richer harmonic color palette, with rhythms ranging from the swinging to the meditative, and a lot of freedom to communicate and really improvise together as a band. Ben, Kanoa, and RJ are tremendously inspiring musicians to me, and I’m so looking forward to sharing space and sound with them and discovering what we find.”
