FOLK: Lena Jonsson Trio (SE)

Lena Jonsson (violin / SE)Erik Ronström (guitar / SE)Kristofer Sundström (bass / SE)

Half rockstar, half fiddler; Lena Jonsson is entirely her own. Time after time she proves that she really is one of Sweden’s most visionary and worldclass musicians. She has created a unique style inspired by traditional Swedish music as well as rock, pop and the american old-time and bluegrass traditions, the latter of which she has become quite famous for through her two american bands The Goodbye Girls and her duo with Brittany Haas. She has recently released the album Places with which she will be touring with her amazing trio.

Halvt rockstjerne, halvt spillemand.

Diana Torto/Ewan Svensson Trio

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Diana Torto (Vocal / IT)Ewan Svensson (Guitar / SE)Mads Vinding (Bass / DK)Magnus Gran (Drums / DK)

Right now, Italian singer Diana Torto is one of the most interesting vocalists in the world. Her professional career started as early as 12 years of age but even before she remembers, singing and music has won her heart. This evening Torto is accompanied by three musketeers when Ewan Svensson Trio takes the stage for a magnificent evening. Ewan Svensson, considered by many to be one of Sweden´s most interesting jazz guitarists, has been both a member and leader of a succession of many jazz groups since the end of the 70´s. In 1987, the first Ewan Svensson Trio was born, and with contemporary melodic jazz originals and in different constellations, the Ewan Svensson Trio has since successfully toured worldwide. In addition to Svensson himself, this time the trio will see Mads Vinding on the bass and Magnus Gran behind the drums.

Steen Rasmussen Quinteto feat. Barbara Casini

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Steen Rasmussen (Piano / DK)Barbara Cassini (Vocal/Guitar / IT)Lis Wessberg (Trombone / DK)Eliel Lazo/Jacob Andersen (Percussion / DK)Frederik Damsgaard (Bass / DK)Jonas Johansen (Drums / DK)

Steen Rasmussen Quinteto has long ago established itself as one of Denmark’s top-class musical offerings of Brazilian inspired jazz, with personal expression, deep confidentiality with the genre, and consisting of some of Denmark’s best musicians. Their 6 CD releases have all been well received, just like Steen Rasmussen Quinteto is one of the country’s most wanted live bands right now. In February 2017, Steen Rasmussen was invited to Florence to play a range of concerts along with the Italian singer, guitarist and composer, Barbara Casini. It went great and he invited her to join in on the group’s most recent album “CANTA” released in spring 2018. Barbara Casini is a famous figure on the southern European jazz/latin scene. Especially her collaboration with pianist Stefano Bollani and organizer Enrico Rava is impressive. Casini is also very familiar with bossa nova and besides singing beautifully in Italian, she also excels in Portuguese. We look forward to an evening of melodious, graceful and beautiful music.

Katie Thiroux

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Katie Thiroux (Bass/Vocals / US)Matt Witek (Drums / US)Martin Shack (Piano / DK)

After a summer with 10 weeks as artist in residence at Quincy Jones’ jazz club in Dubai, Katie Thiroux returns to Montmartre. This time, the outstanding American bassist and jazz singer will perform two nights with her trio. Thiroux is quickly on her way to become a big name on the international jazz scene. The debut album 'Introducing Katie Thiroux' from 2015 received 'Best Debut Album' prizes from several important media and her latest album 'Offbeat' was awarded one of the best albums in 2017 by Downbeat Magazine.

Thiroux has a refreshing and modern approach to jazz favorites and continues the swing tradition inspired by bass masters like Ray Brown and John Clayton. At the same time, she has a vocal finesse, which is both soft, remarkable and often surprising. In the words of the music icon Quincy Jones: "This girl is IT!". Experience her at Montmartre with countryman Matt Witek behind the drums and Danish Martin Schack at the grand piano.

Som musik-ikonet Quincy Jones selv siger: ”This girl is IT!”.

Sharón Clark (Vocal / US)Mattias Nilsson (Piano / SE)Jesper Bodilsen (Bass / DK)Zoltán Csörsz (Drums / HU)

"I never thought I'd hear a singer with the range, musicality and command of tone and timbre that was like Sarah Vaughan at her best, but now I have." has JazzTimes written about Sharón Clark. For these two concerts, Clark will pay tribute to Sarah Vaughan and perform her songs in an exceptional way. Clark has become world-renowned for her beautiful vibrato and incomparable tonality. Her voice is truly blessed, and the audience is repeatedly enchanted when they hear her live. As the last time, she has her pianist Mattias Nilsson with her. The two met for the first time at a jazz club in New York, and fortunately Nilsson has lured her to the Nordic countries. Since then they have visited several European jazz clubs. Their Danish debut at Montmartre was a great success and we are extremely pleased that the two, accompanied by Jesper Bodilsen and Zoltan Csörsz, is paying us another visit!

"I never thought I'd hear a singer with the range, musicality and command of tone and timbre that was like Sarah Vaughan at her best, but now I have." har JazzTimes skrevet om Sharón Clark.

Jesper Thilo Quartet: Danish Jazz Legend

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Jesper Thilo (Tenor Sax / DK)Olivier Antunes (Piano / DK)Thomas Fonnesbæk (Bass / DK)Janus Templeton (Drums / DK)

The internationally acclaimed saxophonist Jesper Thilo has since the early 1960s positioned himself as a colossal in both the Danish and European jazz landscape. As part of the Arnvid Meyers Orchestra, DR's Big Band and various ensembles of national and international character, Jesper Thilo has made a significant impression on Danish jazz and always guaranteed music on top of the scale. He was the first to receive the Ben Webster award in 1977. A prize that was awarded to Olivier Antunes in 1999. Thilo and Antunes began their telepathic collaboration in 1995, where the mere 22-year-old Olivier entered the big scene along with the already internationally recognized Thilo. The mentor and protegé relationship has resulted in musical sparks over the years. The combination of Thilo's hot, crisp and melodic saxophone with Antunes' youthful, potent and temperamental piano forms an exquisite cocktail that any jazz connoisseur will enjoy. Not least when they are accompanied by the two virtuosos; Thomas Fonnesbæk on bass and Janus Templeton on drums.

Adam Nussbaum’s Leadbelly Project

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Adam Nussbaum (Drums / US)Steve Cardenas (Guitar / US)Nate Radley (Guitar / US)Ohad Talmor (Tenor Sax / FR)

Adam Nussbaum’s drumming has that kind of shining quality that rewards the collective and enhances the tunefulness of the music. On the album Leadbelly Project, his first work as a sole leader, he draws from the American roots, focusing on treasured repertoire by the influential blues and folk singer/songwriter Lead Belly, but still adding a couple of kindred compositions of his own. Throbbing with marvelous interplay and filled with compelling tonal colors, this project provides us with an optimum revitalization of the folk and blues genres, here seamlessly merged with the exciting language of jazz. A language he has gained significant recognition for while playing and recording with Steve Swallow, John Abercrombie, Michael Brecker, Dave Liebman, and John Scofield. Nussbaum chose two guitars to revive the rawness of Lead Belly’s bluesy tones through an entirely up-to-date perspective. Playing in tandem yet resorting to sweet-tempered counterpoints, guitarists Steve Cardenas and Nate Radley join the drummer in a bass-less quartet rounded out by saxophonist Ohad Talmor.

Photo: David Forman

Al Di Meola (Guitar / US)Peo Alfonsi (Guitar / IT)Fausto Beccalossi (Accordion / IT)

Al Di Meola is a pioneer of blending world music, rock and jazz. His ongoing fascination for complex rhythmic syncopation, combined with provocative lyrical melodies and sophisticated harmony, has been the heart of his music throughout a celebrated career that has spanned over four decades. The Grammy Award winner achieved worldwide fame for both being a solo artist and for his collaborations with stars such as Frank Zappa, Jimmy Page, Stevie Wonder, Chick Corea, Paul Simon, Phil Collins, Herbie Hancock, and many more. Al Di Meola holds the highest amount of guitar awards in different categories from Guitar Player Magazine (US). With a curriculum vitae rich of exciting musical moments and incredible works, Al Di Meola is still challenging himself pushing his music towards new boundaries but with a more relaxed way to see things. Over the last few years he has in fact literally started all over, reinventing himself in both, his private life and music. This is a rare opportunity to experience Al Di Meola in an intimate setting.

Photo: Francesco Cabras

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Dan Berglund (Bass / SE)Martin Hederos (Piano/Keys / SE)Johan Lindström (Guitar / SE)Andreas Werlin (Drums/Percussion / SE)

This quartet has been completed in conjunction. If no single band member appears to stand out as a soloist, it is because they have a way of soloing together at the same time. After a decade, Tonbruket has played countless concerts and always in the same line-up, which is never something that should be taken for granted. It means that they have grown together into a unit, a perfectly oiled machine that can produce the grooves and yet can also defy expectations with their poetic lightness. They have made four highly acclaimed studio albums on the German label ACT, each of which received a Swedish Grammy. When Tonbruket is playing live they move from lulling and sensitive folk through playful and hip jazz, and onwards to outward rock tendencies. Be prepared to experience a Swedish Quartet of high quality that really manages to take the listener along on a musical journey through the various sound waves of jazz.

Kuba Więcek and his trio were featured in the latest issue of Downbeat magazine on the page dedicated to European jazz:

"Any perceived shortcomings, though, easily were washed away as the Kuba Więcek Trio, led by its namesake saxophonist, gamboled through inventive compositions, aiming at various times to mimic a glockenspiel or solidify whatever it currently means to be a new-millennium Euro-based ensemble indebted to jazz’s history and pop music’s populism." - Downbeat Magazine (USA) at Jazzahead! 2018.

Tickets only sold in the door. 100DKK/50DKK for students and under 26.

Marialy Pacheco & Rhani Krija: Marocuba

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Marialy Pacheco (Piano / CU)Rhani Krija (Drums/Percussion / MA)

The stations in the career of Cuban pianist Marialy Pacheco are impressive: her debut album was produced by Roberto Fonseca, pianist of the legendary Ibrahim Ferrer (Buena Vista Social Club) and in 2012 she became the first woman to ever win the Montreux Jazzfestival Solo Piano Competition. Percussionist and drummer Rhani Krija was born in Morocco and is currently one of the world’s most renowned percussionists - in the jazz & world music scene, as well as in the rock & pop scene. As a teenager, he emerged himself in the traditional music styles of northern Africa, which still today, form the foundation of his music and style of playing. With the musically diverse range he possesses, Krija has the ability to play almost any style with authenticity In the summer of 2013, Rhani Krija meet Marialy Pacheco for the first time and both musicians got along instantly - personally and musically. Together they have created “Marocuba”, a unique and fresh sound that arises in a mix of traditional Cuban music, afro-Moroccan rhythms and contemporary European jazz.

Jeff Hamilton's world-class drumming is characterized by being super swinging, very melodically performed with a touch, timing and a creativeness that one only experiences when a top of the line star occupies the scene. Marie Dahlstrøm

Marie Dahlstrøm (Vocal / DK)Mafro Waters (Guitar / UK)Jay Asafo (Bass / UK)Dandiggas (Keyboards / UK)Mickel Boswell (Drums / UK)Joshua Boswell (Vocal / UK)Jasmine Bourner (Vocal / UK)Liselotte Östblom (Vocal / SE)

Hailing from Roskilde, Denmark, Marie Dahlstrøm quickly became known for an output of beautifully crafted Jazz flavored RnB since she moved to London in 2010. Her eclectic and refreshing take on the genre has won her fans across the globe. The real joy of Marie Dahlstrøm’s music is that it seems to do so many things at once without ever seeming to do anything much at all, which is the epitome of gracefulness. It consists of wonderful layers of smooth harmony and infectiously sultry soulness. In July she release the EP “Kanel”, which is the Danish word for Cinnamon. The EP, produced by JNTHN STEIN was recorded in one week in Corsica. The intense yet rewarding session meant that they could get away from any distractions and focus solely on recording. The result is five soulful tracks with chorus hooks, where soul/jazz inspired instrumentale arrangements get to flourish in electronic beats and samples – while Dahlstrøm’s vocals is as beautiful as ever.

”It isn’t too much to say that ‘Kanel’ is a gorgeous collection of songs and indeed perfect for wine and dancing…and chilling, and socializing, and listening to on your own, as night time lullabies and as music to start the day to, to party to and to wind down too…in fact I can’t think of a single moment of your day when putting this record on wouldn’t enhance the moment beyond measure.”

Toninho Horta Feat. Piero Odorici

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Toninho Horta (Guitar/Vocal / BR)Piero Odorici (Tenor Sax / IT)Gilson Silveira (Drums/Perc / BR)

TRIBUTE TO GETZ & JOBIM

TRIBUTE TO GETZ & JOBIM

Toninho Horta and Piero Odorici with this new project want to tribute Antônio Carlos Jobim the most important exponent and composer of the genre Bossa nova and the great Stan Getz the most representative saxophonist and interpreter of the compositions of Jobim. The repertoire consists primarily of the compositions of Jobim as well as original pieces of Horta and famous Jazz standards giving rise to harmonies and phrases decidedly appealing. Horta has proven himself as an influential guitarist and composer with 10 solo releases, with special guests such as Pat Metheny, Naná Vasconcelos and Eliane Elias. From a very early age, he has been a highly sought after accompanist for both Brazilian and international jazz stars. Piero Odorici started his musical life in studies of classical music, but it ended up becoming the jazz in which he immersed himself. In his career, he has led or participated in several major Italian and international groups and played all over Europe and USA. With Gilson Silveira, they will send us all to warmer lands with the rhythms and harmonies of the Bossa nova.
