Kristin Korb is one of the new, young musicians who master the jazz tradition and yet stay true to their own modern selves. We know her from her collaboration with Ray Brown, Jan Lundgren, Alex Riel and Jeff Hamilton, who have all taken note of her incredible swing. In 2012, love brought her to Denmark from Los Angeles, but she maintains an international career. This September, she releases her most personal CD yet, “Finding Home”, featuring Kristin's stories of love, travel, language lessons and integrating into her new Danish home.

STEFANO BOLLANI TRIO

“Close-up” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.

Morten LundMorten Lund
Stefano Bollani (Piano / IT)Jesper Bodilsen (bass / DK)Morten Lund (drums / DK)

Stefano Bollani belongs within an exclusive, elite circle of today's greatest jazz pianists. Not only does his playing radiate extreme musicality and finesse, his playfulness and joie de vivre is without equal in jazz today. Bollani repeals all complaints about the elitism of “art music”. He is an immensely poetic musician as well as an amazing entertainer. Bollani's collaboration with Jesper Bodilsen and Morten Lund has reached a rare state refinement bordering on the telepathic. There will be plenty of opportunities to experience this during their three night return to Montmartre. Not to be missed!

George Colligan plays modern jazz with the greats, from Phil Woods to Nicholas Payton. Despite his originality, he never loses touch with his audience. On this night, he’ll be backed by Morten Ramsbøl and Morten Lund, Denmark’s most solid rhythm section.

On these two evenings, he present his own quartet, which consists of some of Europe's greatest musicians, the phenomenal pianist Robert Lakatos and the young 16 years old super talent David Hodek on drums. And Last but not least, our own Daniel Franck on bass, who completes the quartet. This terrific quartet plays spontaneous jazz. Which swings and has supreme technical competence. Thomas Clausen is one of Denmark's great pianists. As a young man he lay under the piano in Montmartre when Bill Evans played. Later he often played with Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster and Stan Getz. We have heard him in a unique collaboration with Palle Mikkelborg and Gary Burton and so on. Thomas Clausen does it all, a great instrumentalist and a great composer. Now he has assembled an all-star quartet with Tomas Franck, Jesper Lundgaard and Billy Hart, which is one of the greatest and most important drummers of all time. Have a great experience with four of the biggest personalities in jazz.

Jeremy Pelt is one of his generation greatest trumpet player. He has an incredible technique and a sound that makes you think of Miles Davis, Art Farmer and Freddie Hubbard. It is extremely rare that musicians of his calibre turn up on the international jazz scene. With him he has two Danish legends and Copenhagen’s biggest talent on the piano right now. The young Artur Tuznik, who has it all, terrific technique and an extrovert joy, that reminiscent of Christian Sands and Carsten Dahl. This is a quartet with the built in joy of playing, swinging and love for the repertoire of the jazz standards.

On this night, she joins up with regular collaborator Krister Jonsson as well as Josefine Cronholm from her successful project Celestial Circle. The trio's new CD is included in the entry fee.

BLUE LOTUS

Mikkel Nordsø (guitar / DK)Tine Rehling (harp / DK)Ole Theill (tabla / DK)

In Blue Lotus, three of Denmark’s most skilled musicians in three different traditions – jazz, indian music and classical music – create a sound together that is entirely original and beautiful. The trio’s album is included in the entry fee.

Christian Sands is one of America’s finest young pianists, with a technique and a feeling to match the very greatest. On this night, he meets up with his regular Danish collaborators, Thomas Fonnesbæk and Alex Riel, for a classic Montmartre encounter between Danish and American stars.

Steen Rasmussen (piano / DK)Leo Minax (vocal, guitar / BR)Lis Wessberg (trombone / DK)Fredrik Damsgaard (bass / DK)Jonas Johansen (drums / DK)Jakob Andersen (percussion / DK)

Leo Minax is one of Brazil’s greatest songwriters. He first met the Danish pianist Steen Rasmussen in Montmartre in 2012, and the two took the audience by storm. On this night, they are sure to do the same with songs by them both, and by the Brazilian master, Antonio Carlos Jobim.

Morten Ramsbøl is one of Denmark's most sought-after sidemen, but he is also a gifted composer. His first release in 13 years provides ample opportunity to listen to his sublime tone, and we are happy to provide the same opportunity live with this release concert.

Liane Carroll performs with a musical and a humorous surplus out of the ordinary, and supplemented by the legendary Montmartre musicians Hugo Rasmussen and Alex Riel, she is sure to dazzle any audience.

Ben Sidran is a superb pianist and storyteller who has performed with Eric Clapton and Phil Woods, among others. On these nights, he brings his son Leo and his old friend Bob Rockwell along for an inspiring and original performance that might just be enlightening as well.

The Frenchman Didier Lockwood plays the violin with an elegance and an innovation on par with the great French masters of the instrument. On this night, he is joined by the young American lion Warren Wolf and our own stars, Alex Riel and Thomas Fonnesbæk.

For ten years, Aaron Goldberg has run one of today’s hottest trios with Reuben Rogers and Eric Harland. Their music is modern and innovative, yet immediately accessible; they prove that the trio format remains one of jazz’ most exciting constellations.

Overlegen musik for alle!
