Earlier this year, Niels Lan Doky returned to Denmark after 29 years abroad, to reopen Jazzhus Montmartre with his friend Rune Bech. His homecoming was marked with the release of his widely acclaimed album “Return To Denmark”, which quickly earned its well-deserved reputation as one his best albums ever.
The album featured the new and now all-Danish Niels Lan Doky Trio with Doky’s longtime associate on drums, the amazing and ultra-legendary Alex Riel, plus Denmark’s newest bass star, the incredible Morten Ramsbøl.
To celebrate Alex Riels 70th birthday and their first appearance at Jazzhus Montmartre together, the trio will record a live CD and DVD during this engagement.
On Sunday the 5th of September, the first ever“JAZZHUS MONTMARTRE LEGENDS LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD” will be presented to Alex Riel by Culture Mayor of Copenhagen, Pia Allerslev.

This week Montmartre hosts a concert series to celebrate the legendary drummer Alex Riel’s 70th birthday:
During the first month of the our club's reopening, one of the major revelations proved to be the incredible Swiss-American alto saxophonist George Robert who played with Alex Riel as part of our Stan Getz Tribute.
The two had an instant musical chemistry and quickly became great friends as well. An international all-star group with George Robert in front seemed like a natural conclusion on this week-long celebration of Alex's 70th birthday.

The quintessential Scandinavian vocal genius: LISA NILSSON (SE)
Lisa Nilsson (vocal)
João Castilho (guitar)
Sebastian Notini (percussion)
It’s hard to imagine a Scandinavian vocalist who is more loved and admired than Sweden’s Lisa Nilsson. Since her major breakthrough in the early 1990s she has relentlessly and continuously compelled, inspired and deeply moved audiences all over Scandinavia and beyond, and mastering a variety of music genres. We are incredibly proud to welcome Lisa for her first engagement in the newly reopened Montmartre, especially as we consider her a part of the family, since she was one of the lead characters in Niels Lan Doky’s feature documentary film from 2005 “Between a Smile and a Tear” which pioneered the idea of a reopened Montmartre in Store Regnegade.
Lisa has spent a lot of time in Brazil in recent years, she even lived there part time in Rio for a while and has done several recording projects there, one of which she is presenting to us tonight.

The French violin giant returns: DIDIER LOCKWOOD / NIELS LAN DOKY QUARTET
Didier Lockwood (violin/France)
Niels Lan Doky (piano/Denmark)
Morten Ramsbøl (bass/Denmark)
Niclas Bardeleben (drums/Denmark)
Last May, shortly after the Montmartre's reopening, Didier Lockwood flew in from Paris and mesmerized us with four intense nights of extreme virtuosity and exaltation, performing with his longtime associate and former Parisian Niels Lan Doky. The success of these performances immediately called for a return engagement, and we now finally succeeded to find an open time gap in Didier’s ultra-busy schedule. He is one of France’s most celebrated and prolific cultural icons where his reputation transcends all layers of society, he is considered by many to be the greatest violinist in jazz today.
Joining Didier and Niels on stage this time are two of the most exciting musicians in Denmark today, the incredible bassist Morten Ramsbøl and Montmartre’s much raved about house drummer and young prodigy, Niclas Bardeleben.
