Blonde Bass

Ida Hvid (Bass/Vocal / DK)Kristin Korb (Bass/Vocal / US)Helle Marstrand (Bass/Vocal / DK)

In the bass family, it isn’t uncommon to get together to play duos or other ensemble pieces for fun. Publicly, though, it is rare for bass players to be the entire ensemble. Ida Hvid, Kristin Korb, and Helle Marstrand knew each other for years as established bassists and band leaders in Denmark and out in the world. Jamming together one day, they had so much fun they decided to follow the groove deeper, added vocals, percussion, original songs, and came up with a name: Blonde Bass. Blonde Bass mixes jazz standards, original compositions, bass tributes, and 3-part vocal harmonies to make a show that is entertaining, engaging, and unique. Truly, this is a celebration of sisterhood in the groove.

Students / under 26: 112,5 DKK

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Camille Bertault (Vocal / FR)Thomas Fonnesbæk (Bass / DK)

Once in a while it happens that a new voice emerges, with the ability to captivate a whole world. A voice with qualities so unique and so breathtaking that everyone must give in and indulge in the melodiousness. This is what happened a few years ago when the young French singer Camille Bertault uploaded some homemade videos onto Youtube. Here, she is singing in such a unisonally manner with iconic instrumental solos, performed by artists such as John Coltrane, Hermeto Pascoal, Cory Henry and more. Camille Bertaults crystal clear voice, perfect phrasings and endearing charm on these homemade recordings made her a Youtube-darling in no time and we have all been waiting for a chance to hear her sing live. Luckily, we have succeeded to convince this French nightingale to come to Denmark and perform as a duo with the Danish bassist Thomas Fonnesbæk. An instrumentalist whose sense of the bass’ opportunities seems endless. He instinctively chooses the correct tones at the correct moments and his ability to ’melt together’ with other musicians is very unique. What the two musical talents decide to present together is not to be known yet, but one thing is for certain; their musical playfulness and great abilities to improvise open the doors to endless possibilities.

Vivian Buczek feat. Gerard Presencer: A Woman’s Voice

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Vivian Buczek (Vocal / SE)Gerard Presencer (Trumpet / UK)Martin Sjöstedt (Piano / SE)Jesper Bodilsen (Bass / DK)Morten Lund (Drums / DK)

The Swedish jazzsinger Vivian Buczek has with her newest release ”A Woman’s Voice” put emphasis on the woman’s journey through life; from childhood to youth to adult life and old age. Buczek’s inspirations come from the classic jazz female vocalists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Abbey Lincoln, Carmen McRae, Shirley Horn, Sarah Vaughn and of course Monica Zetterlund. This evening, Montmartre will host the presentation of this record release, where Vivian Buczek is accompanied by a super-team consisting of the same Danish, Swedish and English musicians who is backing her on her record. Look forward to a concert with a vocalist who knows and comprehends the tradition and who proudly carries the torch of female jazz singers. Henrik Wolsgaard-Iversen writes in his review of Buczeks previous record: ”Very high musical quality, new paths using old routes. Recommended. Warmly.”

Anbefales. Varmt.”

Veronica Mortensen (Vocal / DK)Mads Bærentzen (Piano / DK)Kristor Brødsgaard (Bass / DK)Janus Templeton (Drums / DK)

Singer/composer Veronica Mortensen has placed herself in the tension field between jazz and singer/songwriter as a concept. Her beautiful and well-conceived songs belong to the second category, but her vocal output definitely has its outspring in jazz. And that actually is a highly satisfying fusion. Veronica Mortensen has been featured soloist with big bands in many countries, she has five releases in her own name on her resumé and her music is often played on various jazz-radiostations. On this occasion she is heard with her own band, who conceives her beautiful and challenging songs the best way possible.

Hania Rani

Hania Rani (Piano / PL)

Hania Rani is a pianist, composer and musician who splits her life between Warsaw, where she makes her home, and Berlin where she studied and often works. Her compositions for solo piano were born out of a fascination with the piano as an instrument, and her desire to interpret its sound and harmonic possibilities in their entirety and in her own way. As she says herself: “I think I am the same as an artist and as a person. Music is my way of communication and I see the art, the music as a whole thing, with no borders, divisions, or even genres.” She definitely a versatile composer who has written for strings, piano, voice and electronics and has collaborated with the likes of Christian Löffler, Dobrawa Czocher and Hior Chronik.

Paul Marinaro/Jan Lundgren Trio:100 Years w. Nat King Cole

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Paul Marinaro (Vocal / US)Jan Lundgren (Piano / SE)Mattias Svensson (Bass / SE)Zoltán Csörsz (Drums / HU)

Acclaimed vocalist Paul Marinaro is dubbed as having “one of the most beautiful vocal instruments in the business today”. Over the course of his career, Marinaro has performed to sold-out crowds at some of the most recognizable rooms in jazz music, including Chicago’s Green Mill and Jazz Showcase, Birdland, and Jazz at the Lincoln Center. Known both for his ability to swing hard and leave you breathless with his lush intricacies and unmistakable baritone, Marinaro brings his own voice both to standards you know and love as well as the hidden gems he manages to unearth and bring to life. For these concerts, he’s joined on stage by a supertrio led by Jan Lundgren. The concerts are presented by Céline Peterson, daughter of Oscar Peterson, and pays tribute to Nat King Cole, who would have turned 100 years old in 2019.

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.
Christian Balvig (Piano / DK)Frederik Bülow (Drums / DK)Adrian Christensen (Bass / DK)

Balvig/Bülow/Christensen started off as musical playmates six years ago. At that point, the goal was to investigate jazz and improv. This resulted in an extremely close teamwork with a completely unique sound. The trios debut album “Associated With Water” has been praised to the skies, by London Jazz News and Raidió Teilifís Éireann (Ireland's National Public Service Broadcaster) amongst others. The trio’s music moves fluently around jazz, classical and folklore and is a poetic contribution to the Nordic jazzscene. It contains emotional, impressionistic colors, Balkan-inspired bass, modern jazz themes and at times ”Chopin-like” rubato-islands. To find a new jazz direction is a main focus for this trio. To develop new, small ”islands” with musical ingenuity and interaction while also making poetic and energetic choices of improv that fits the given composition in an unpretentious manner.

60 years with Alex Riel: Riel/Mazur/Løkke/Pasborg/Tuxen

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.
Alex Riel (Drums / DK)Marilyn Mazur (Drums / Perc / DK)Birgit Løkke (Drums / Perc / DK)Stefan Pasborg (Drums / Perc / DK)Jeppe Tuxen (Keys / DK)

If you could go back 60 years in time you would have the opportunity to experience Alex Riel at his first gig. Since then we have had the great pleasure of his sublime drumming. Not least at Montmartre, where he was the preferred Danish drummer of many of the great Americans visiting. We are celebrating his 60 years in the industry with four evenings in three widely different constellations, giving audiences the opportunity to enjoy Danish jazz's unconditionally greatest drummer ever. Alex Riel's genius in all three sets is allowed to sparkle, and he is constantly challenged by similarly playful and competent musicians.

The first night is devoted to percussion and organist Jeppe Tuxen will be the only one in charge of the harmonies. Tuxen has been praised for his ability to play the keys in a way that reminds you of the time, the Hammond organ and the rotating Leslie-speaker made jazz ultra-funky. This constellation will furthermore be accompanied by Stefan Pasborg who has a great sense of timing and the ways he uses the relatively simple setup seems endless. We will also have the pleasure of having Marilyn Mazur on percussion. Mazur has been called ”a rhythmic colorist who paints the music with her tremendous percussion skills” – the perfect addition to this constellation. Last but not least, Birgit Løkke will be joining the stage this night. She is known as being the percussionist of the band Savage Rose and has since played in many different orchestra and theatre settings.

Baun On Beatles: Album Release

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.
Søren Baun (Piano/vocal/Arrangement / DK)Andreas Møllerhøj (Bass / DK)Ulrik Brohuus (Drums / DK)

Baun on Beatles is a jazz trio that interprets selected Beatles songs with personality, nerve and respect. Pianist and singer Søren Baun grew up with Beatles on the record-player and over time, he has made his own piano-carried versions. They play with excess and room for improvisation depending on mood, location, weather and audience. "The small trio interpret the Beatles back-catalog as jazz standards, swing, Latin, bebop and funk, and they do so, with an unimpressed freshness that goes in the middle floor, delighting and provoking in exactly the same way as it did in the summers of 64 and 65" - Carsten Legaard, journalist.

Jeremy Pelt Quintet: American Trumpet Star

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Jeremy Pelt (Trumpet / US)Chien Chien Lu (Vibraphone)Victor Gould (Piano / US)Vicente Archer (Bass / US)Allan Mednard (Drums / US)

Trumpet-player Jeremy Pelt got his musical training in the tough part of New York-based hardbop. He is now well prepared to take care of passing on Jazz to the future. No one in this band crawls along the panels! Pelt takes the music on and delivers with awareness, technically perfection and above all with great respect for the genre. Pelt learned about the music through many years as side-man with the very best and now presents his version of the music he loves. Besides music, Pelt is also deeply into classic painting and sculptures and he will give his musical versions of inspirations that he received. And these two concerts are actually dedicated to the father of modern sculpturing, Auguste Rodin.

Students / under 26: half price

Jan Lundgren/Ulf Wakenius Quartet: Tribute to Oscar & Duke

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Jan Lundgren (piano / SE)Ulf Wakenius (guitar / SE)Hans Backenroth (bass / SE)Kristian Leth (Drums / DK)

Two of Sweden’s leading musicians, Jan Lundgren and Ulf Wakenius, join forces and will merge their sublime lines together in beautiful clusters, which display the best of Duke Ellington and Oscar Peterson’s compositions. Wakenius was a regular guitarist in Peterson’s last group and has since then made himself his own international career as conductor and soloist (with our own NHØP), and Lundgren is one of Europe’s most respected pianists who embraces jazz as well as a more classical repertoire. They bring two versatile musicians with an impressive track record; Backenroth and Leth, who will lay out the non-skid rhythmical blanket for the soloists.

Students/under 26: 50% off
