Lasse Schjerning meets Pedro Martins & Frederico Heliodoro

“Upcoming” is Montmartre’s series of talent concerts where upcoming artists test the boundaries of jazz.
Lasse Schjerning (Drums / DK)Pedro Martins (Guitar / BR)Frederico Heliodoro (Bass / BR)

Lasse Scherning’s new and ambitious project is unique Nordic elegance and simplicity in symbiosis with Brazilian romance and passion. The listener gets struck when the trio explores the sonic universe between two cultures with great respect and passion for the music’s honesty. This intriguing encounter across borders is the culmination on an intense and stimulating musical stay in Berlin, where the trio met in spring 2018. They quickly found a connection and a curiosity for the deeper layers in the music. This curiosity and a high level of ambition has always powered the young and upcoming drummer Lasse Schjerning ever since he grabbed the drumsticks. This is the reason why he is inviting the young Brazilian lions to Denmark this spring. Pedro Martins and Frederico Heliodoro both have an impressive back catalogue considering their young age. They are also members of bands which includes musicians such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, David Binney and KNOWER.

Tickets: DKK 100 / DKK 50 for students and under 26.

Carsten Dahl Trinity

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Carsten Dahl (Piano / DK)Nils Bosse Davidsen (Bass / DK)Stefan Pasborg (Drums / DK)

Carsten, Nils and Stefan are reaching out for the essence of interplay and improvisation through well-known standard songs, that invites the three musicians into a field of innovation as playing composers and composing players.

"This constellation is my favourite one. It’s like one big contemplative collective breath of air, where the horizontal and vertical understanding between us, become one. A seldom experience in music in fact and an inquestionable obligation to serve the universal language of music to the audiens. Being a complete trinity in music" – Carsten Dahl.

Marie Bergman Solo

Marie Bergman (Guitar/Solo / SE)

Marie Bergman is one of Sweden’s greatest singers and maybe the most distinctive female troubadour of the North. With her amazing voice and her excellent guitar accompaniment she truly deserves the description given to her by the reviewer from Jyllands-Posten after Frederikssund Visefestival: ”Vocalist Grand Cru!” Throughout 20 years Marie Bergman has played at small and major venues in Denmark such as Midtfyns Festival, Roskilde Festival, Skanderborg Festival and Frederikssund Festival a.o. She masters both rock and jazz but has returned to her starting point as a troubadour. She presents her own songs and interpretations of Evert Taube, Carl Michael Bellman and Cornelis Vreeswijk with artistic intensity, drive, vitality and timelessness. Marie Bergman is a rare experience and her audience will get a great musical experience.

Tickets: DKK 200 / DKK 140 for students and under 26

Jesper Thilo with Olivier Antunes

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Jesper Thilo (Tenor Sax / DK)Olivier Antunes (Piano / DK)Thomas Fonnesbæk (Bass / DK)Janus Templeton (Drums / DK)

The internationally acclaimed saxophonist Jesper Thilo has since the early 1960s positioned himself as a colossal in both the Danish and European jazz landscape. As part of the Arnvid Meyers Orchestra, DR's Big Band and various ensembles of national and international character, Jesper Thilo has made a significant impression on Danish jazz and always guaranteed music on top of the scale. He was the first to receive the Ben Webster award in 1977. A prize that was awarded to Olivier Antunes in 1999. Thilo and Antunes began their telepathic collaboration in 1995, where the mere 22-year-old Olivier entered the big scene along with the already internationally recognized Thilo. The mentor and protegé relationship has resulted in musical sparks over the years. The combination of Thilo's hot, crisp and melodic saxophone with Antunes' youthful, potent and temperamental piano forms an exquisite cocktail that any jazz connoisseur will enjoy. Not least when they are accompanied by the two virtuosos; Thomas Fonnesbæk on bass and Janus Templeton on drums.

Max Ionata (Tenor/Sax / IT)Steen Rasmussen (Piano / DK)Jesper Bodilsen (Bass / DK)Martin Andersen (Drums / DK)

Jazz from Italy is in the front seat these years. Saxoplayer Dado Moroni and pianists Enrico Pieranunzi and Stefano Bollani regularly visits Denmark and excites everyone with their enchanting fusion between straight ahead US-jazz and Mediterranean temperament. Tenor saxophonist Max Ionata is one of tomorrow’s leading Italian musicians. His huge, dry and warm sound points back to greats like Sonny Rollins, but he still carries the beauty and warmth of his homeland with him. Here he performs with a trio led by Danish bass player Jesper Bodilsen, who is member of Bollani’s trio. Breathe in the beautiful combination of the warmth from the Mediterranean and the raw US-jazz, combined with cool Danish elegance this early spring day.

Hannah Svensson (Vocal / SE)Jacob Fischer (Guitar / DK)Mattias Svensson (Bass / SE)Zoltán Csörsz (Drums / HU)Klas Lindkvist (Alto Sax/Clarinet / SE)

Singer Hannah Svensson has a special place in Swedish jazz. She is not only a jazz singer; she is very inspired by Americana as well as Swedish popular- and traditional music, and is also a fine piano player, as well as being a fine and tasteful painter – her paintings are off course inspired by her life in jazz. But her main profile is that of a jazz singer, already now belonging to the forefront of Swedish jazz singing in 2018.

Tyler Blanton Group

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.

Jazz is rapidly developing these years. Young musicians appear regularly and show guts, talent and above all maturity. This Californian-born, now living in New York, vibe player Tyler Blanton is one of these. Thorough studies of the instrument and its possibilities and a natural ability to create music that makes sense, has rushed Blanton up among the leading vibe-players of the US. Blanton brings thought out music that seems inspired by classical American jazz as well as classical European music.

Storyville Album Releases: Romme Trio & Lundekvist Trio

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.

1. set:

Zier Romme (Piano / DK)Anders Fjeldsted (Bass / DK)Jeppe Gram (Drums / DK)

2. set:

Sven-Erik Lundekvist (Piano / SE)Simon Petersson (Bass / SE)Olle Dernevik (Drums / SE)

Danish pianist Zier Romme has been named greatest talent in many years. And well deserved it is. He has an impressive technique; his musical ideas flow like a thundering river and he respectfully follows the fine path of instrumental predecessors. Zier Romme Trio plays jazz with joy and innovation which proves that the formation piano, bass and drums still can produce great music – as long as the musicians on stage have something on their mind. Enjoy excellent music played by excellent musicians.

With Swedish Sven-Erik Lundekvist Trio we are a little further ahead in jazz history. He brings his own music, but off course has the necessary respect for the tradition. His music is aggressive and in-your-face, but don’t worry; you are not pushed away. The three musicians know what they are doing and join each other – and the audience – in a fruitful and ever commenting and supportive cooperation. New Swedish jazz with heart, soul and energy.

Clemons’ own playing offers grand, technical perfect, warm and catching lines. On this occasion, we will enjoy Clemons accompanied by four eminent Danish musicians. Keep an open ear out for young tenor player Søren Høst. American/Danish Jazz at its very best – and totally in line with the tradition.
