Jan Lundgren/Ulf Wakenius Quartet: Tribute to Oscar & Duke

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Jan Lundgren (Piano / SE)Ulf Wakenius (Guitar / SE)Hans Backenroth (Bass / SE)Kristian Leth (Drums / DK)

Two of Sweden’s leading musicians, Jan Lundgren and Ulf Wakenius, join forces and will merge their sublime lines together in beautiful clusters, which display the best of Duke Ellington and Oscar Peterson’s compositions. Wakenius was a regular guitarist in Peterson’s last group and has since then made himself his own international career as conductor and soloist (with our own NHØP), and Lundgren is one of Europe’s most respected pianists who embraces jazz as well as a more classical repertoire. They bring two versatile musicians with an impressive track record; Backenroth and Leth, who will lay out the non-skid rhythmical blanket for the soloists.

Claudia Campagnol: I’m Strong

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Claudia Campagnol (Vocal / DK)John Venkiah (Piano/Vocals / SE)Carl Mörner Ringström (Guitar / SE)Andreas Hatholt (Bass / DK)Niclas Campagnol (Drums / SE)

It’s a tricky business being a musical natural talent. The singer, composer and conductor Claudia Campagnol have since childhood been very focused on making a musical career for herself and she hasn’t looked back since. Here is a versatile and charismatic artist, who has dedicated herself and further developed an immensely wide and personal musical expression. There’s soul, jazz, pop and R&B in the repertoire, but most importantly one senses Campagnol’s true love for the presence of the music. Her debut release “I’m Strong” showcases a deeply personal musical creator, who manages to both embrace big, obliging expressions and to go straight for the listener’s most inner soul. Be prepared for music that fills up the room and which will certainly call forth both smiles and tears.

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Eric Reed (Piano / US)Ralph Moore (Tenor Sax / UK)Matthias Petri (Bass / DK)Andreas Svendsen (Drums / DK)

This project is a strong collaboration between two of America’s biggest jazz heroes and two of Denmark’s new young lions. The two mature front figures, pianist Eric Reed and saxophonist Ralph Moore, have both been an established part of the American jazz scene and have played with all and sundry. If you do so, you will dedicate yourself to a whole lot of experience and understanding for the deeper soul of jazz. The two young Danes Petri and Svendsen are on their way to doing the same. They have also been part of collaborations with New York-musicians, and they also know that skill doesn’t do it alone: courage, energy and musical maturity not the least is alpha and omega if you want to move upwards in the hierarchy of jazz. Experience two generation’s meet and witness how great music arises when everyone on stage has same focus. Stylistically we are towards an updated bebop/neobop.

Tine Bruhn is a Danish singer, probably new for most of us, but who guaranteed will become a permanent guest in the land of jazz in Denmark in the future. Bruhn resides in New York and is a regular on the club scenes of The Big Apple. This night she will, with her clear voice and confident phrasing, interpret some of Joni Mitchell’s lesser known songs. Some task to throw oneself into, but with Bruhn’s talent for making other’s songs her own, a lovely experience is to be expected. Furthermore, the program will consist of contemporary American songs and reinterpretations of American folk music. An American jazz critic describes Tine Bruhn’s voice like this: “An open fireplace that you would want to warm oneself in front of a whole night.” Enjoy!

Mads Vinding (Bass / DK)Dado Moroni (Piano / IT)Niclas Campagnol (Drums / SE)

Star-studded trio jazz is, without hesitation, the sentence that describes this concert. Mads Vinding Trio has gradually become a kind off concept within jazz. From the beginning, the concept offered a mix of jazz standards and original compositions – always performed with emphasis on the lyrical interplay. Mads Vinding Trio started in 1997 as a project with the Italian pianist Enrico Pieranunzi and drummer Alex Riel. And ever since, a myriad of world class musicians has been invited to join the exclusive trio company. Mads Vinding himself is one of the biggest Danish jazz musicians in his era. Internationally recognized for his original and virtuoso bass playing. These evenings are a chance to experience how creative and superb a musician Mads Vinding is, when he visits Jazzhus Montmartre with super pianist Dado Moroni and the equilibrist Niclas Canpagnol.

A popular guest returns on stage. The singer Sharón Clark has visited Jazzhus Montmartre before with great success and is welcomed again with great anticipation. We are looking forward to a night with standards that showcase the best from jazz – presented with wit, humour, joy and skill not least. Ms. Clark for sure has a couple of Ella Fitzgerald albums on her shelves, but that’s not the worst to get inspired by, after all. In other words: This is music where the foot automatically taps the floor on two and four and where the smile remains until the night is over.

Anders Fjeldsted is a highly requested bassist of his generation, who draws inspiration from pioneers such as Charles Mingus, Dizzy Gillespie and Miles Davis. In 2017, he received the Bent Jædig Award and has subsequently toured with his sextet that consists of some of country’s strongest jazz voices. The sextet demonstrates, despite their relatively short carrier and the member’s young ages, a superciliously musical and technical skill level which manifests the sextet as an important new star on the Danish jazz heaven. The music offers expressive and vigorous arrangements served through a close and energetic ensemble playing. Summer 2018 the group won the prestigious Gexto International Jazz Contest. This evening we are lucky enough to listen to songs from their brand new album "Anders Fjeldsted Sextet". It's gonna be big!

Tonight's concert with Diversity Trio, formed and led by Lee, is your opportunity to experience the broad spectrum of his powerful yet emotional playing. In addition to Søren Lee, the trio is comprised of two other virtuosos, Linley Marthe on bass og Niclas Campagnol on drums. Together they form a new, modern and dynamic version of the guitar trio. Don't miss out on these three amazing soloists performing Lee's always well composed, open minded jazzy compositions. All three chip in with their great, individual sounds – Lee's straight from-the-heart-guitar, Marthe's groovy bass lines and Campagnol's dynamic drums. Together they have a rare chemistry that adds punch and vitality to the groovy stuff as well as Lee's beautiful ballads.

Eddie Henderson Quartet

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Eddie Henderson (Trumpet / US)Danny Grissett (Piano / US)Arnie Somogyi (Bass / UK)Stephen Keogh (Drums / IE)

It is not enough to have a beautiful tone. You also need to know what to do with it! Trumpet player Eddie Henderson possesses both qualities. Henderson first came forward in the middle of the 1970’s as a permanent member of Herbie Hancock’s ensembles. He marked himself as an essential part of Hancock’s innovative jazz fusion and from there he continued as a leader of his own groups within the fields of latin jazz, jazz fusion and smooth jazz. Eddie Henderson’s current group has “returned” to the authentic, acoustic jazz; an expression that Henderson masters to perfection and where he is eminently supported by his trio. Look forward to timeless, storytelling music where Eddie Henderson’s exceptionally beautiful tone is an attraction itself.

Carsten Dahl Trinity

“Premium” is Montmartre’s series of rare intimate concerts with jazz giants that you cannot normally meet on small intimate stages. These concerts are priced above the normal tickets to cover costs and travel for these heavy-weights.
Carsten Dahl (Piano / Rhodes / DK)Niels Bosse Davidsen (19/3) (Bass / DK)Ole Morten Vågan (20-21/3) (Bass / DK)Stefan Pasborg (Drums / DK)

The pianist Carsten Dahl continues to surprise. Just as one thought that he was categorized as an exclusive solo pianist, he comes out as leader of a row of tough and raw constellations and now in this trio, which possibly tops in strength and coarseness. Dahl brings one of the country’s most attentive bassists Nils Bo Davidsen and the ultra-dynamic drummer Stefan Pasborg. And the music? Aggressive, flexible, playful, right on the spot and of course tough and raw. It’s trio music that doesn’t exist elsewhere, which constantly develops and digs out new musical expressions, which no one else has been in the proximity of. In other words: Music going forward with solid roots in and great respect for the already existing.

Justin Kauflin is one of the great piano talents of recent times, and this evening he returns to Montmartre's grand piano in the company of the two Danish stars Thomas Fonnesbæk and Morten Lund. The three musicians, each sublime virtuoso on their own instrument, meet for a powerful exchange of dynamic jazz. The collaboration between Kauflin and Fonnesbæk has received very commendable reviews for the releases Synesthesia (2017) and Sharing (2018), and at this concert we will hear a little bit of their compositions, some standards and a good amount of improvisation in between.
