Human Being Human is an exciting and innovative Danish trio that will perform this evening with the world-renowned American saxophonist Chris Cheek as a prominent guest soloist.
Chris Cheek is one of the best saxophonists of his generation in the USA - and one of the most innovative and versatile saxophonists on the modern American jazz scene.
He manages to balance the lyrical with the experimental, and has played with great legends such as Paul Motian, Charlie Haden, Steve Swallow and Bill Frisell, Jorge Rossy, Brad Mehldau, Steve Cardenas, Ferenc Nemeth and Kurt Rosenwinkel.
The sound of the Danish trio Human Being Human is full of surprises. There are passages of timeless openness, energetic, virtuoso improvisation and riffs that are inspired by everything from Bach's counterpoint to electronica and ambient music.
The three musicians' varied backgrounds contribute to the group's distinctive character: Torben Bjørnskov comes from the Danish tradition of melodic double bassists, pianist Esben Tjalve is a modern musician who excels on London's virile jazz scene, while drummer Frederik Bülow belongs to the new Nordic jazz generation, complete with rhythmic finesse and hip grooves.
