Mingus møder Ellington i Pierre Dørges verdensorkesters globale lyd

🇬🇧 ENGLISH:
What kind of jazz do they play?
Pierre Dørge's music is pure "Global Jazz", mixing the classic American swing tradition (with facets of Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus) with exotic sounds from Bali, Africa, the Middle East and Danish choral music. It is jazz that is both deeply serious and liberatingly humorous. The music alternates between complex compositions and free improvisation.
What should I know about them?
New Jungle Orchestra is undoubtedly one of Denmark's most travelled orchestras. Since 1980, they have toured in more than 60 countries – from the USA and China to Ghana and Syria – and have acted as official cultural ambassadors for Denmark, including the Royal House. At the same time, they have given concerts for international peace icons such as the Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela. With over 40 years under their belt and more than 20 albums under their belt, Pierre Dørge has created a "school" in Danish jazz, where many of the country's biggest profiles have played their part. As an 8-piece band, they now appear as a trim, swinging machine that knows each other's musical expressions down to the smallest detail.
