- Ivan Rod, Gaffa

🇬🇧 ENGLISH:

What kind of jazz do they play?
The star-studded band Silhouette - fronted by saxophonists Fredrik Lundin and Christina von Bülow - pays tribute to the great Swedish baritone saxophonist and composer Lars Gullin in this concert.

Gullin's beautiful and lyrical universe is brought to life, and the evening is a pure declaration of love for the special "Nordic tone" that Lars Gullin pioneered in the 1950s.

What should I know about them?
Christina von Bülow is known for her exceptionally beautiful tone and her deep lyrical playing. She has received several awards, including the Ben Webster Prize and the Palæ Bars Jazz Prize, and has played with legends such as Stan Getz and Lee Konitz.

Fredrik Lundin is one of the most versatile and award-winning musicians in Danish jazz. He is known for his ability to move between the wild and the sensitive and has received several Danish Music Awards as well as the prestigious JASA Prize.

Five of Danish jazz's strongest forces, who have all traveled across the Scandinavian jazz scene, meet here in the orchestra Silhouette around the love for the Scandinavian, lyrical melancholy, as experienced in the music of the great Swedish baritone saxophonist and composer Lars Gullin.

The music, which exudes Scandinavian melancholy, is based on Gullin's infinitely beautiful songs, but the orchestra also plays compositions by the orchestra's own members, music that, so to speak, updates this characteristic Scandinavian mix of folk tunes and so-called cool jazz. A music where the most beautiful melodic snarling flowers sprout lushly from a powerful, nutritious harmonic soil.

What do the critics say?
"Perhaps the Danish jazz record of the year.......The ensemble makes the music an organic whole. ...art that, despite the modest format, is enriched by an immense wealth of nuance." - Jørgen Siegumfeldt, Jazzspecial

"The album is a wonderful tribute to the melancholic jazz that the Swedes are masters of and that von Bülow and Lundin are very much in touch with." - Niels Overgård, Jazznyt

"The timelessness and the low-key intensity are present from the first track. This warm, melodic music lodges itself in the mind with a mood of bittersweet, fruitful melancholy." - Christian Munch-Hansen, Politiken

"Unusually melodious and refreshing. A great listening experience. Forgotten material from the 60s and 70s is magnanimously lifted into our time." - Ivan Rod, Gaffa
