Trommeslageren Stefan Pasborg hylder sin gudfar og læremester, ikonet Alex Riel
Da den verdensberømte danske trommeslager Alex Riel døde i juni sidste år, blev han sendt herfra med en trommehyldest fra ikke mindre end ni af Danmarks største trommeslagere i Christianskirken på Christianshavn.
I blandt dem var trommeslageren Stefan Pasborg, der er Riels gudsøn, og som har lært sit spil fra mesteren selv.
Nu hylder Stefan Pasborg Trio den store legende ved to koncerter på Jazzhus Montmartre i juli under Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
Stefan Pasborg har etableret sig som en seriøs og innovativ musiker, der bl.a. har samarbejdet og indspillet med store navne som John Tchicai, Miroslav Virtuos og Tomasz Stanko. Han har en stil, der spænder vidt fra jazz, afro, balkan til rock.
Pasborgs nuværende trio består af de to anerkendte sværvægtere på jazzscenen, en af Danmarks største pianister Carsten Dahl, og på saxofon og fløjte den anmelderroste blæservirtuos Fredrik Lundin.
Trioen spiller egne kompositioner og gør sig bemærket med en alsidig lyd, der blander nordisk noir med rammeløs, amerikansk free-jazz. Dahl og Lundin kan som få andre male billeder, hvortil Pasborgs knivskarpe, eksplosioner tager musikken til nye højder.
Der opstår et kosmos, hvor tidsfornemmelse ofte tilsidesættes, til fordel for fri improvisatorisk kunst, som de tre kunstnere mestrer hver især.
Trioens album “DEAR ALEX” er netop udkommet.

When the world-famous Danish drummer Alex Riel died in June last year, he was sent off with a drum tribute from no less than nine of Denmark's greatest drummers in Christianskirken in Christianshavn.
Among them was drummer Stefan Pasborg, who is Riel's godson and who learned his playing from the master himself.
Now the Stefan Pasborg Trio is paying tribute to the great legend at two concerts at Jazzhus Montmartre in July during the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
Stefan Pasborg has established himself as a serious and innovative musician who has collaborated and recorded with big names such as John Tchicai, Miroslav Virtuos and Tomasz Stanko. His style ranges widely from jazz, Afro, Balkan to rock.
Pasborg's current trio consists of the two recognized heavyweights on the jazz scene, one of Denmark's greatest pianists Carsten Dahl, and on saxophone and flute the critically acclaimed wind virtuoso Fredrik Lundin.
The trio plays their own compositions and stands out with a versatile sound that mixes Nordic noir with frameless, American free-jazz. Dahl and Lundin can paint pictures like few others, to which Pasborg's razor-sharp explosions take the music to new heights.
A cosmos emerges where the sense of time is often disregarded, in favor of free improvisational art, which the three artists each master.
The trio's album “DEAR ALEX” has just been released.
