Tickets

— Jazz Journal (UK)

🇬🇧 ENGLISH:

What kind of jazz do they play?
A unique blend of modern jazz and Brazilian "música popular". It's not just samba or bossa nova jazz, but an exploration of Brazilian genres such as baiao and choro, as interpreted through Clausen's masterful European jazz background.

What should I know about them?
As a young man, Thomas Clausen was often a pianist in Montmartre and played with luminaries such as Dexter Gordon, Ben Webster, Miles Davis and Stan Getz. He has also received the Danish Arts Foundation's lifetime achievement award for his importance to Danish music. His Brazilian adventures began in earnest in the mid-1990s and have since manifested themselves as one of the most successful cross-cultural projects in Danish jazz. His Brazilian projects have taken him on tours in the USA, Germany, Sweden and of course Brazil, where his ability to integrate the Nordic tone into the tropical rhythms has been hailed as something completely unique.

What do the critics say?
"Enchanting - a masterpiece." — Politiken (about the album Balacobaco)

"Thomas Clausen has long played Brazilian music... but here he has truly found the Brazilian in himself. A beautiful combination of elegance and a hell of a sound." — Berlingske

"A music filled with Nordic longing. An original music written in a country where it snows, but with a heart that beats in time with Rio." — Statens Kunstfond

"Skilled, brilliant and imaginative ... nothing less than a masterpiece.." — Jazz Journal (UK)
